Questions
Why captive instead of a loose washer?
One part instead of two: faster assembly, no dropped washers inside equipment, and the washer is always there.
Can the washer be a different finish from the screw?
Usually the assembly is plated together after rolling. If you need different finishes, mention it so the sequence can be planned.
Which head types can take a captive washer?
Pan, cheese, hex and combi heads. Countersunk heads cannot, because the washer would stop the head seating.
